2 year program for up to 60 students.
Eligibility of application: Migrants from Burma, children of Burmese migrants with financial need and middle school graduates are eligible to apply. All must have a commitment to study, a strong hope for their future and a passion for Burma.
Application: Recruitment period is usually in December and again in April. Application forms can be requested one month prior to recruitment. Completed applications and documents may also be emailed or sent by mail to the BEAM office by the application due date. Applicants need to sit entrance exam and personal interview is also required. Study program (First year): There are three semesters for one academic year and each semester is four months long. Students will be studying General English, Academic English, Social Studies, Science and Math which are designed for supplementary high school level. The purpose of this program is to prepare the students with different backgrounds for high school level. Medium of instruction is both in Burmese and English. Students will be provided one month academic skills training which includes critical thinking practices, note taking, academic reading and writing, researching, debate and discussion.
Study program (Second year): There are three semesters for one academic year and each semester is four months long. Students will be studying Language Art (reading), Language Art (writing), Social Studies, Science and Math which are designed for GED preparation. The purpose of this program is to prepare the students who passed first year, or who passed the second year entrance process, for the GED test and the College Admission process. Medium of instruction is English only.
Class arrangement: Since we focus on the working group of people, classes are provided both in the morning (8:30-11:30) and in the evening (6:00-9:00). Students are free to choose the session that fits their schedule. Students should expect to attend extra classes based on their needs, especially for second year.
Tuition/ Enrollment fee: BEAM is non-profit educational foundation. We provide free tuition and text books.
