2021 Call for Applications CYLD-GED Program

2021 Call for Applications CYLD-GED Program
(2021-2022 Academic Year)

Call for Applications: Community Youth Leader Development Program (CYLD) (formerly known as the GED Program)

Community Youth Leader Development Program (CYLD) is the updated design of the former higher education preparation program (GED program), which operated as one of major activities at BEAM since its establishment in 2010. The new design focuses on a wider range for capacity building, networking, youth empowerment and community engagement activities. This program is a bridge for migrant and marginalized youth who have not completed their basic education and are unable to pursue higher education. As part of higher education access, this program provides the American-based internationally recognized high school equivalency course and certificate.

We are now open for new student applications for the 2021-2022 academic year. We encourage any individuals from marginalized communities, particularly migrants and refugees from Myanmar with strong aspirations and commitment to prepare for higher education, to apply for the program. Applicants should have intermediate level English language skill at the minimum. Medium of instruction in the CYLD program is in English only. The eligibility criteria and more detailed information is outlined below:

Application: The application form can be completed online via https://forms.gle/V3C9nGMf1Mr3ndvG9 and must be submitted by 4 April 2021.

Entrance test and interview: Invited applicants must sit for an entrance test, which includes English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The entrance test will take place online via Zoom. After the entrance test, successful applicants would be contacted with further details about the admissions interview and next steps.

Academic Calendar: The 2021-2022 academic year will be ONLINE and begin in mid-May 2021 with orientation and foundational activities followed by four semesters of GED preparation which will end in late May 2022. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in experiential learning activities like volunteering and internships if they are available between June-August 2022.
