About the program and position
Community Youth Leader Development program (CYLD) is designed to be an annual capacity based and activity-oriented leadership, and youth development training program. The program focuses on a wide range of capacity building, networking, youth empowerment and community engagement activities as well as academic skill development for higher education.
CYLD is a one-year program, aiming to prepare the students to pass the high school equivalency examinations and to apply for college and university. The program intends to bring together migrant, refugee, and marginalized youth to deepen and develop their life skills, leadership skills, social network, social work skill development, and language development. These skills will be developed as a part of students’ academic development and it will foster active youth participation in the community development processes and peace building within the Thai-Myanmar border area and inside Myanmar.

Job description:
Program Design, Management, and Leadership Functions:
Meets weekly with the CYLD Leadership team to build and improve the CYLD program.
Develops curriculums that align with the values of the CYLD program.
People Engagement, Management, and Leadership Functions:
Assists with the recruitment of teachers, interns, volunteers, and students for the CYLD Program.
Leads the team of CYLD teachers and volunteers to:
o meet monthly with teachers to discuss teaching
o coordinate professional development programs
o communicate regularly with teachers
Engages regularly with students in the CYLD program, mentoring and counseling students regarding scholarships, university applications, and other student related issues.
Connects with alumni for scholarship opportunities and collaborative projects/knowledge sharing sessions.
Mentoring and counseling students regarding scholarships and universities.
Schedules student GED Exams and coordinates payment of exam fees through BEAM.
GED Language Arts Instructor Functions:
Teaching English Reading & Writing based on the GED 2014 curriculum. 4 lessons per week (6 hours total)
Creating lesson plans and teaching lessons on Zoom.
Utilizing the online learning platform to assist with teaching.
Providing academic feedback and assisting with university applications, writing recommendation letters for students if requested.
Creating, proctoring, and grading semester exams.
Job skills and qualifications:
● University graduate with an English related major or relevant certificate and capacity to teach GED RLA.
● Native English speakers or those with a GED and a background in American education are preferred.
● Excellent knowledge of the designated subject and the latest educational theories & practices.
● Passion for teaching and organization skills.
● Patience, flexibility and strong communication skills.
● Commitment to helping students achieve their maximum potential.
● Creative, strategic thinker who is people-oriented and emotionally intelligent.
● Capability to “power with” rather than “power over” others.
● Compassionate (can work well with marginalized and disadvantaged people).
● Strong problem-solving skills, taking initiative, open-mindedness and has the desire to learn.
● Adaptable, genuinely likes working with youth.
● Knowledge, understanding, and practicing of Child Safeguarding is required.
The candidate should be open minded and able to commit to 30 working hours per week to the position. Work permit and visa will be provided at the Foundation’s expense after the individual has successfully completed a probation period. This contract is valid for a period of one year (May 2023 – April 2024) and may be renewed by mutual agreement between the employee and the Foundation.
