BEAM/JUMP! Community Impact Project Implementation
As outcome of the BEAM/JUMP! Youth Leadership Conference: “Raising Lanterns of Chiang Mai,” which was held on 5-6 November 2016 in Chiang Mai, three groups of youth including Myanmar youth, Thai youth, and Thai ethnic youth worked together to implement community impact projects. The three winning projects aimed to improve educational access for migrant and refugee youth, educate traffic rules among migrants, and prevent dangerous mosquito borne illnesses through training. All of the projects were completed successfully on 27th July, 30th July, and 5th August, 2017 respectively. The project members were true change-makers who actively worked together to make a difference in their communities. Congratulations on doing such a great job while completing all of the community impact projects.
This year, we will be introducing several global citizenship and social entrepreneurship workshops prior to the conference to better prepare the participants to design their own projects, and to increase the likelihood that they will be successfully implemented. The workshop and conference will take place for four days (two weekends in late October and early November 2017). Approximately 50 youth will attend the workshop and conference as participants. The program will also provide a space for youth to openly discuss the serious issues facing the ASEAN Region and solutions they see to these issues. On Conference Day 1, the participants will identify common community challenges., With those challenges in mind, they will then focus on the most pressing issues and begin designing their Community Impact Projects on Conference Day 2.
This will be the 2ndprogramcontinuing the partnership between BEAM and the JUMP! Foundation. The JUMP! Foundation (“JUMP!”) is a non-profit experiential education organization established in 2006 in response to a need in youth education for programs that address issues of leadership and global citizenship. JUMP! acts as a collaborative platform for participants to come together to challenge themselves, inspire one another, and influence change in their surroundings.
