The year 2021 was a tough year for Mary (Wint Eaint Thu Thu Htun) who had no access to higher education. Mary felt her future was bleak.

“Prior to discovering BEAM, my life was in disarray, with no clear path forward. I was engulfed in a sense of hopelessness and battling depression,” says Mary. “However, since connecting with BEAM, my circumstances have drastically improved. They have been instrumental in guiding me towards a brighter future.”

Mary had her sights set on achieving her GED and then applying for scholarships so she could attend KMUTT (King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi). She wanted to fulfil her dream of becoming an Architect and was determined to somehow find a way.

“I quickly realized that securing scholarships from outside organizations for this specific field was exceptionally challenging. When comparing it to other majors, the undeniable truth is that the financial demands of studying Architecture are significantly higher,” she says.

After careful research Mary discovered that KMUTT offered a Presidential Scholarship and she decided to apply. It involved submitting an application form, some essays, a portfolio of drawings and an interview.

“I felt over the moon when I got this Presidential Scholarship from my university. At the time when I get accepted to my dream university, I couldn’t be happier,” says Mary.

“The transformation in my life since gaining access to higher education has been nothing short of extraordinary. I am now surrounded by a multitude of opportunities that lie ahead, waiting for me to seize them with unwavering determination. With the invaluable support of BEAM, I have embarked on a journey to pursue my dream of becoming an architect.”

Although Mary will not forget the importance of where she comes from after she graduates.

“Whether it is through participating in local community projects, mentoring aspiring architects, or engaging in initiatives that address critical social issues, I am committed to finding ways to contribute meaningfully to my community,” she says.

“I strongly believe that everyone has the power to create positive change, and I am eager to harness that collective strength. No matter where life takes me, I will always hold my community close to my heart.”

“BEAM has been the bedrock of my journey, and I owe all my successes to this incredible organization. Looking back at my life in 2021, I was adrift, unable to access education or the resources necessary to pursue my dreams.

That was until I discovered the BEAM Education Foundation, which became the pivotal turning point in my entire existence. It is difficult to fathom a life without BEAM, as it would have been shrouded in darkness, devoid of opportunities and support.”

If you are thinking about applying to BEAM’s CYLD program Mary has some advice.

“You are making a great decision. Studying for the GED can be challenging, but don’t be afraid to ask for help from your teachers or classmates when you encounter difficult problems,” Mary says.

“BEAM will always be there to support you, even after you graduate. I have found my teachers to be my biggest supporters, and I still stay in touch with them to discuss the challenges I face in university. They always believe in me and encourage me to keep going.”

“As I reflect on how far I have come, I am filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead. I am confident that with my dedication and the support of BEAM, I will be able to create a future that exceeds my wildest dreams.”

၂၀၂၁ ခုနှစ် သည် မယ်ရီ ခေါ် (ဝင့်အိမ့်သူသူထွန်း) အတွက် အဆင့်မြင့်ပညာရေး မရရှိခဲ့သော ကြောင့် ခက်ခဲသောနှစ်တစ်နှစ်ဖြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။ မယ်ရီက သူ့ရဲ့အနာဂတ်ဟာ မှောင်မိုက်ပြီး စိတ်ပျက်စရာကောင်းတယ်လို့ ခံစားခဲ့ရတယ်။

“Organization ကြီးတစ်ခုဖြစ်တဲ့ BEAM ကို ရှာမတွေ့ခင်မှာ ကျွန်မဘဝဟာ ဖြောင့်ဖြောင့်တန်းတန်း ရှေ့ဆက်မသွားနိုင်ခဲ့ဘဲ ရှုပ်ထွေးနေခဲ့တယ်။ မျှော်လင့်ချက်ကင်းမဲ့မှုကြောင့် စိတ်ကျဝေဒနာ‌ကို တွန်းလှန်နေရတဲ့ ခံစားချက်တွေနဲ့ ကျွန်မ နစ်မြုပ်နေခဲ့တယ်” လို့ မယ်ရီပြောပြပါတယ်။ “BEAM နဲ့ဆက်သွယ်ပြီးကတည်းက ကျွန်မ အခြေအနေတွေ အကြီးအကျယ် တိုးတက်လာတယ်။ သူတို့က ကျွန်မကို တောက်ပတဲ့အနာဂတ်ဆီ အရေးတစိုက်နဲ့ သေသေချာချာလမ်းညွှန်ပေးကြတယ်။”

မယ်ရီဟာ သူမရဲ့ General Education Diploma (GED) ကို ရရှိဖို့ သူမသေချာဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ချခဲ့တယ်။ ထို့နောက် သူမဟာ KMUTT (King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi) ကို တက် ရောက်နိုင်ရန်အတွက် ပညာသင်ဆု လျှောက်လွှာကို တင်ခဲ့တယ်။ သူမဟာ ဗိသုကာပညာရှင်တစ်ဦးဖြစ်လိုတဲ့ သူမ၏အိပ်မက်ကို အကောင်အထည်ဖော်လိုပြီး တစ်နည်းနည်းဖြင့် နည်းလမ်းရှာတွေ့ရန် စိတ်ပိုင်းဖြတ်ခဲ့တယ်။

“ဒီနယ်ပယ်အတွက် ပြင်ပအဖွဲ့အစည်းတွေဆီက ပညာသင်ဆုရဖို့ အထူးခက်ခဲတယ်ဆိုတာ ကျွန်မ ချက်ချင်းသဘောပေါက်လာတယ်။ ဒီမေဂျာကို အခြား‌‌ မေဂျာများနှင့် နှိုင်းယှဉ်ရာမာ မငြင်းဆိုနိုင်တဲ့ အမှန်တရားက ဗိသုကာပညာကို လေ့လာခြင်းရဲ့ ငွေကြေးဆိုင်ရာ တောင်းဆိုချက်များမှာ သိသိသာသာ မြင့်မား‌ နေတယ်လို့ ၊ ” သူမကပြောပါတယ်။ 

ဂရုတစိုက် ရှာဖွေပြီးနောက် KMUTT က ပညာသင်ဆုတွေ ကမ်းလှမ်းခဲ့ပြီး လျှောက်လွှာတင်ဖို့ သူမ ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်တယ်။ ထို့ဖိုင် တွင် လျှောက်လွှာ တစ် ခု ၊ စာစီစာကုံး အချို့ ၊ ပန်းချီကား များစုစည်းထားတဲ့ ဖိုင်တခု နှင့် အင်တာဗျူး တစ်ခု ပါဝင်ပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မ‌ လျှောက်ထားတဲ့ တက္ကသိုလ်က ပညာသင်ဆုရတဲ့အခါ ကျမ အရမ်း‌ပျော်ရွှင်ခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ ကျွန်မအရမ်းတတ်ချင်ခဲ့ရတဲ့ တက္ကသိုလ်က ပညာသင်ဆုကို လက်ခံလိုက်တဲ့အချိန်မှာ ဘာအရာကမှ ဒီထက် ပိုပြီးပျော်ရွှင်နိုင်မှာမဟုတ်ဘူး” လို့ မယ်ရီပြောပြတယ်။

“အဆင့်မြင့်ပညာရေးရရှိကတည်းက ကျွန်မဘဝမှာ ပြောင်းလဲမှုတွေဟာ ထူးခြားလှပါတယ်။ အခုအခါမှာတော့ ရှေ့မှာကြုံ‌တွေ့ရမယ့် အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေ အများကြီးနဲ့ ဝန်းရံခံနေရပြီး အဲဒါတွေကို မယိမ်းယိုင်တဲ့စိတ်ပိုင်းဖြတ်ချက်နဲ့ သိမ်းယူဖို့ စောင့်နေပါတယ်။ BEAM ရဲ့ တန်ဖိုးမဖြတ်နိုင်တဲ့ ထောက်ပံ့မှုနဲ့ အောင်မြင်တဲ့ ဗိသုကာပညာရှင် တယောက်ဖြစ်လာမယ်ဆိုတဲ့ ကျွန်မရဲ့အိပ်မက်ကို အကောင်ထည်ဖော်ဖို့ကျမ ခရီးစထွက်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။”

မယ်ရီဟာ ကျောင်းပြီးဆုံးတဲ့နောက်မှာလဲ သူဘယ်ကလာတာလဲဆိုတာ လုံးဝမေ့မှာမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

” ကျွန်မဟာ ဒေသခံ အသိုင်းအဝိုင်း စီမံကိန်း များ တွင် ပါဝင် ခြင်း ၊ စိတ်အားထက်သန် သော ဗိသုကာမေဂျာအားစိတ်ဝင်စားသူများကို ဗဟုသုတပေးခြင်း ၊ သို့မဟုတ် အရေးကြီး သော လူမှုရေး ကိစ္စရပ် များ ကို ဖြေရှင်း သော အစပြု ဆောင်ရွက် မှု များ တွင် ပါဝင် ခြင်း မှ ဖြစ် စေ ၊ ကျွန်မဟာ ကျွန်မရဲ့ ရပ်ရွာ ကို အကျိုး ရှိ စွာ ကူညီ ထောက်ပံ့ ရန် နည်းလမ်း များ ရှာဖွေ ရန် စိတ်ဆုံးဖြတ်ချထားပါတယ် ၊ ” သူမက ပြောတယ်။

“လူတိုင်းမှာ အပြုသဘောဆောင်တဲ့ ပြောင်းလဲမှုတွေ ဖန်တီးနိုင်စွမ်းရှိတယ်လို့ ကျွန်မ အခိုင်အမာယုံကြည်တယ်၊ အဲဒီစုပေါင်းခွန်အားကို အသုံးချချင်ပါတယ်။ ဘဝက ကျွန်မကို ဘယ်နေရာဖြစ်ဖြစ် ခေါ်သွားပါစေ ကျွန်မရဲ့အသိုင်းအဝိုင်းကို အမြဲသတိရနေမာပါ။”

“BEAM ဟာ ကျွန်မရဲ့ခရီးစဉ်ရဲ့ အခြေခံအုတ်မြစ်ဖြစ်ခဲ့ပြီး ဒီမယုံနိုင်စရာ အဖွဲ့အစည်းဟာ ကျမရဲ့အောင်မြင်မှုအားလုံးကို အထောက်အကူဖြစ်စေခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ၂၀၂၁ ခုနှစ်မှာကျန်နေခဲ့တဲ့ ကျွန်မဘဝကို ပြန်စဉ်းစားကြည့်တဲ့အခါ ပညာရေး ဒါမှမဟုတ် အိပ်မက်တွေ နောက်လိုက်ဖို့ လိုအပ်တဲ့ အရင်းအမြစ်တွေကို ကျွန်မအတွက်အလုံအလောက် မရရှိခဲ့ပါဘူး။ ဒါက ကျွန်မဘဝတစ်ခုလုံးမှာ အရေးပါတဲ့ အလှည့်အပြောင်းဖြစ်လာတဲ့ BEAM ပညာရေးဖောင်ဒေးရှင်းကို ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိတဲ့အထိပါပဲ။ အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေနဲ့ ထောက်ပံ့မှုတွေမရှိတဲ့ အမှောင်ထဲမှာ ဖုံးကွယ်ထားခဲ့သလိုပဲ BEAM မပါဘဲ ကျွန်မရဲ့ဘဝကို နားလည်ဖို့ ခက်ခဲပါတယ်။”

အကယ်၍ သင်က BEAM ရဲ့ CYLD အစီအစဉ် တွင် လျှောက်လွှာတင်ဖို့ စဉ်းစား နေရင် မယ်ရီမာ သင့်အတွက် အကြံဉာဏ် အချို့ရှိပါတယ်။

“သင်တို့ဟာ အင်မတန်ကောင်းမွန်ပြီး ကြီးမားတဲ့ ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ကို ချနေတာပါ။ GED အတွက် လေ့လာခြင်းဟာ စိန်ခေါ် မှု ဖြစ် နိုင် သော်လည်း ၊ သင်ဟာ ခက်ခဲ သော ပြဿနာ များ နှင့် ကြုံတွေ့ ရတဲ့အခါ သင်ရဲ့ ဆရာ များ သို့မဟုတ် အတန်းဖော် များ ထံ မှ အကူအညီ တောင်းခံ ရန် မကြောက်ပါနဲ့ ၊ ” မယ်ရီ ကပြောတယ်။

“BEAM ဟာ ကျောင်းပြီးဆုံးတဲ့နောက်မှာတောင် သင့်ကို ထောက်ပံ့ပေးဖို့ အမြဲရှိနေပါလိမ့်မယ်။ ကျွန်မရဲ့ ဆရာမတွေဟာ ကျွန်မရဲ့ အကြီးမားဆုံး ထောက်ပံ့ပေးသူတွေဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာ တွေ့ရှိခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ တက္ကသိုလ်မှာ ကျွန်မရင်ဆိုင်နေရတဲ့ အခက်အခဲတွေကို ဆွေးနွေးဖို့ သူတို့နဲ့ အဆက်အသွယ်ဆက်ရှိနေတုန်းပါပဲ။ သူတို့က ကျွန်မကို အမြဲယုံကြည်ပြီး ဆက်သွားဖို့ အားပေးတယ်။”

“ကျွန်မ ဘယ်လောက်‌ ဝေးဝေးရောက်လာပြီဆိုတာ စဉ်းစားနေတုန်းမာ အနာဂတ်မှာကြုံရမယ့်အရာတွေအတွက် မျှော်လင့်ချက်နဲ့ စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားမှုတွေနဲ့ ပြည့်နေတယ်။ ကျွန်မရဲ့ ရဲရင့်မှု၊ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကို ယုံကြည်ချက်ရှိမှု‌‌ တွေနဲ့ 

BEAM ရဲ့ထောက်ပံ့မှုတွေကြောင့် ကျွန်မရဲ့ အိပ်မက်တွေနဲ့ ပြည့်ဆုံနေပြီး အလွန်ကြီးမားတဲ့ အနာဂတ်ကို ကျွန်မ ဖန်တီးနိုင်မယ်ဆိုတာ ကျွန်မ အမှန်တကယ် ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။”

သင်လည်း သင်ရဲ့အိပ်မက်တွေကို အကောင်အထည်ဖော် နိုင်တာပေါ့။ အကယ်လို့ သင်ဟာ GED ကိုလေ့လာသင်ယူချင်နေပြီး BEAM ရဲ့ CYLD အစီအစဉ် ကို လျှောက်လွှာတင် ရန် စဉ်းစားနေပါက ကျေးဇူးပြု ၍ အောက်က link မာလျှောက်ထားနိုင်ပါတယ်။
