On 27th of January 2015, BEAM’s students and teachers visited the talk given by Dr. Cynthia Maung’s on the Mae Tao Clinic and initiatives for children and the current border situation with Myanmar. The event took place at Le Meridien Hotel, Chiang Mai and was organized by Chiang Mai’s International Rotary Club.
Mae Tao Clinic started as a temporary clinic, but its facilities increased, including not only a hospital, but also education and satellite clinics. The hospital provides surgical services, reproductive care, HIV treatment, prosthetics, eye and dental care. The clinic serves between 400 – 500 people per year, which is provided by approximately 700 staff members providing health care and child protection services. The clinic treats more than 115,000 cases annually.
Moreover, the talks were on initiatives for Children, educational activities, women’s and children’s rights, social protection and rights. BEAM students were able to have the opportunity to get to know the Mae Tao Clinic and its dedicated services as well as gain an understanding and knowledge on health and human rights, Child protection and current border situations.
During the event, donations could be made to the general fund of the Mae Tao Clinic. Chiang Mai International Rotary Club has been conducting service projects for the community of families from Myanmar living in Mae Sot and the Mae Tao Clinic.
