Hsu Lai Naing went from struggling to find an education solution in Dawei to being a partially funded student at Chiang Mai University. If you are looking for hope for a better future, Hsu Lai Naing’s story may be a great way to start!

“I was lost. I definitely lost track of formal education. I did self-reflection to choose the major that I am passionate about after quitting my former University (University of Medical Technology),” Hsu Lia Naing says. 

“Then, I found out that I want to study social sciences at Chiang Mai University. I checked the requirements and found out that I need a GED certificate as a 12 year equivalent as I can’t get an academic transcript from my former University.”

Once Hsu Lai Naing passed the entrance examination to Beam school and began classes, she could see that things were going to improve.

“There is no replacement for the Beam GED Program. So, You guys must not miss this chance. In my life, one of the best decisions that I made is to join the CYLD program. The whole time, I felt so lucky to have a chance to meet all these amazing people and had a lot of “ah-ha moments” that enhanced my knowledge,” she says.

“Even almost a year and half after finishing this program, I still can’t move on form the atmosphere that is full of love, support and kindness. I am always in contact with my teachers and friends. You can get a lifelong safe and learning atmosphere.”

Hsu Lai Naing’s teachers agree that she dedicated herself to her studies and worked very hard. They noticed her determined nature and her quest for further education. The main force that drove her to succeed was the fact that her parents had sacrificed themselves for her future.

“I can’t let my parents’ efforts be a waste; since they worked as migrant workers in Thailand for more than a decade to support my education in Myanmar. All these things made me dive into getting a scholarship,” says Hsu Lai Naing.

“They could not afford to support my education in Thailand as they have limited incomes.”

Hsu Lai Naing was determined to get an education so she threw herself into trying to achieve a scholarship to pay for her education. This took time and was hard work. And after being accepted to study at Chiang Mai University, Hsu Lai Naing decided to begin the orientation week, even though she had to pay the fees within two weeks. 

This was a tense time for her but her hard work paid off when she received news that Daughter’s Rising would provide her with a scholarship.

“I screamed and ran to my friend (Cosec) who is always side by side throughout our journey to get back education,” she says.

“I would not be here without my CYLD community, especially my teachers and friends. I got a lot of support from them, not only academic opportunities but also emotional support.”

When asked if Hsu Lai Naing had any advice for people looking for a pathway to university she gives this advice.

“Don’t hesitate to grab this golden opportunity!” 

Since beginning at Chiang Mai University Hsu Lai Naing has had some fabulous opportunities, and just recently she flew back from the National University of Singapore to attend the Asean Undergraduate Symposium.

Hsu Lai Laing plans to will work for her migrant community and her Tavoy ethnicity in the future.

Although she considers that there are still some struggles with this journey to education, she certainly appreciates where she is right now.

“I still need to face financial challenges for my living expenses, but at least I am living my dream!”

Hsu Lai Naing သည် ထားဝယ်တွင် ပညာရေး အဖြေရှာရန် ရုန်းကန်ရင်းမှ ချင်းမိုင်တက္ကသိုလ်တွင် Partially ထောက်ပံ့ထားသည့် ကျောင်းသူတစ်ဦး ဖြစ်လာခဲ့သည်။ အကယ်၍ သင်ဟာ ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်သောအနာဂတ်လမ်းစတွေအတွက် မျှော်လင့်ချက်ကို ရှာဖွေနေပါက Hsu Lai Naing ရဲ့ story ကို စတင်ရန် ကောင်းမွန်သောနည်းလမ်းဖြစ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မ လမ်းပျောက်သွားတယ်။ ပညာရေးလမ်းကြောင်း ပျောက်နေတာ သေချာပါတယ်။ တက္ကသိုလ်ဟောင်း (ဆေးဘက်ဆိုင်ရာနည်းပညာတက္ကသိုလ်) ကထွက်ပြီး စိတ်အားထက်သန်တဲ့ မေဂျာကို ရွေးချယ်ဖို့ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် ပြန်သုံးသပ်မိပါတယ်” ဟု Hsu Lai Naing က ပြောသည်။

“နောက်တော့ ချင်းမိုင်တက္ကသိုလ်မှာ (Social Science) လူမှုရေးသိပ္ပံဘာသာရပ်ကို သင်ယူချင်သောစိတ်ရှိလာတယ်။ အဲ့ဒါနဲ့ပဲ ကျောင်းဆက်တက်ဖို့အတွက် ကျွန်မအရင်တက္ကသိုလ်က ပညာသင်ထောက်ခံစာမရခဲ့လို့ လိုအပ်ချက်တွေကို စစ်ဆေးကြည့်လိုက်သောအခါ 12 တန်းနဲ့ညီမျှတဲ့ GED လက်မှတ်လိုအပ်တယ်ဆိုတာသိလာခဲ့ပါသည်။”

Hsu Lai Naing သည် BEAM ‌GED ကျောင်း ဝင်ခွင့်စာမေးပွဲ အောင်ပြီးနောက် အတန်းစတက်သောအခါ သူမရဲ့ အခြေအနေများ တိုးတက်လာတာကို သူမ သိလိုက်ရသည်။

“Beam GED Program အတွက် အစားထိုးစရာမရှိပါဘူး။ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီအခွင့်အရေးကို လက်မလွတ်သင့်ပါဘူး။ ကျွန်မဘ၀မှာ အကောင်းဆုံးဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်တစ်ခုက BEAM GED/CYLD Programမှာ ပါဝင်ခဲ့တာပါပဲ။ တစ်ချိန်လုံး၊ ဒီလိုအံ့သြစရာကောင်းတဲ့ လူတွေအားလုံးကို တွေ့ဆုံခွင့်ရပြီး ဗဟုသုတတိုးစေတဲ့ “အဟားအခိုက်အတန့်” တွေ အများကြီးရှိလို့ ကံကောင်းတယ်လို့ ခံစားရတယ်” ဆိုတာ သူမက ပြောပါတယ်။

“Beam GED/CYLD Program ကို ပြီးသွားတာ တစ်နှစ်ခွဲနီးပါးတောင်ရှိပြီး ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာ၊ ပံ့ပိုးမှုတွေနဲ့ ကြင်နာမှုတွေ ပြည့်နှက်နေတဲ့ အငွေ့အသက်တွေကနေ မထွက်နိုင်သေးဘူး။ ဆရာ၊ ဆရာမတွေနဲ့ အမြဲတမ်း အဆက်အသွယ် မပြတ်ပါဘူး။ ဘဝတစ်လျှောက်လုံး ဘေးကင်းလုံခြုံပြီး သင်ယူမှုအငွေ့အသက်ကို သင်ရနိုင်ပါသည်။”

“ကျွန်မ မိဘတွေရဲ့ ကြိုးစားအားထုတ်မှု၊ အနစ်နာခံမှုကို အလဟသ မဖြစ်ပါစေရပါဘူး။ ကျွန်မမိဘတွေသည် ကျွန်မရဲ့ပညာရေးကို ပံ့ပိုးကူညီဖို့အတွက် ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံမှာ ဆယ်စုနှစ်တစ်ခုကျော်ကြာ ရွှေ့ပြောင်းအလုပ်သမားများအဖြစ် လုပ်ကိုင်ခဲ့ကြသည်။ ဒါတွေအကုန်လုံးက ကျွန်မကို ပညာသင်ဆုရစေခဲ့သည်” ဟု Hsu Lai Naing က ပြောပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မရဲ့မိဘတွေက ဝင်ငွေအကန့်အသတ်ရှိလို့ ကျွန်မ ထိုင်းမှာပညာရေးဆက်လက်သင်ကြားနိုင်ဖို့အတွက် ထောက်ပံ့ဖို့ မတတ်နိုင်ပါဘူး”

Hsu Lai Naing သည် ဆက်လက်ပညာသင်ကြားဖို့အတွက် ပြင်းထန်သောစိတ်ရှိသောကြောင့် ပညာသင်စရိတ်အတွက် ပညာသင်ဆုရရှိရန် ကြိုးစားခဲ့သည်။ ဒါက အချိန်ယူရပြီး ခက်ခက်ခဲခဲ ကြိုးစားခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ ချင်းမိုင်တက္ကသိုလ်တွင် ပညာသင်ကြားဖို့အတွက် လက်ခံပြီးနောက် Hsu Lai Naing သည် နှစ်ပတ်အတွင်း အခကြေးငွေပေးဆောင်ရသော်လည်း ကျောင်းရဲ့ Orientation ကို စတင်ရန် ဆုံးဖြတ်ခဲ့သည်။

အဲ့ဒီအချိန်အတောအတွင်းဟာ သူမအတွက် တင်းမာနေတဲ့အချိန်ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် Daughter’s Rising က သူမကို ပညာသင်ဆုတစ်ခု ထောက်ပံ့ပေးမယ်လို့ သတင်းရရှိတဲ့အခါ သူမရဲ့ ကြိုးစားအားထုတ်မှုဟာ အောင်မြင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မ ဝမ်းသာလွန်းလို့ အော်ဟစ်ပြီးတော့ ပညာရေးပြန်ရဖို့အတွက် ခရီးတလျှောက် အမြဲဘေးကနေကူခဲ့တဲ့ ကျမရဲ့သူငယ်ချင်း (Cosec) ဆီကို ပြေးခဲ့တယ်” လို့ သူမက ပြောပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မရဲ့ CYLD အသိုင်းအဝန်း အထူးသဖြင့် ဆရာတွေနဲ့ သူငယ်ချင်းတွေ မရှိရင် ဒီနေရာအထိရှိမှာမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ သူတို့ဆီက ပညာရေး အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေသာမက စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ ပံ့ပိုးကူညီမှုတွေ အများကြီးရခဲ့ပါတယ်”

တက္ကသိုလ်တက်ရန် လမ်းစရှာနေသောလူငယ်များအတွက် Hsu Lai Naing အား အကြံဥာဏ်များပေးဖို့အတွက် မေးသောအခါ 

 “ဒီအခွင့်အရေးကောင်းကို ဆုပ်ကိုင်ဖို့ တုံ့ဆိုင်းမနေပါနဲ့!”

ချင်းမိုင်တက္ကသိုလ်ကို စစတက်ရောက်ကတည်းက ထူးထူးခြားခြား အခွင့်အလမ်းကောင်းတွေ ရခဲ့ပြီး မကြာသေးခင်ကပဲ ASEAN Undergraduate Symposium ကို တက်ရောက်ဖို့ စင်ကာပူ အမျိုးသား တက္ကသိုလ် (NUS) ကနေ ပြန်လာခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Hsu Lai Laing ရဲ့ အနာဂတ်သည် သူမ၏ ရွှေ့ပြောင်းအခြေချနေထိုင်သည့် အသိုက်အဝန်းနှင့် သူမ၏ ထားဝယ်တိုင်းရင်းသားများအတွက် အလုပ်လုပ်ဖို့အတွက် စီစဉ်နေသည်။

ဒီပညာရေးခရီးအတွက် ရုန်းကန်ရမှုတွေ ရှိနေသေးတယ်လို့ သူမက ယူဆထားပေမယ့် အခုလက်ရှိရောက်နေတဲ့နေရာကို အသိအမှတ်ပြု ကျေနပ်ပါတယ်။

“ကျွန်မရဲ့ နေထိုင်မှုစားစရိတ်တွေအတွက် ငွေကြေးစိန်ခေါ်မှုတွေ ရင်ဆိုင်ဖို့ လိုအပ်နေသေးပေမယ့် အနည်းဆုံးတော့ ကျွန်မရဲ့အိပ်မက်ကို ရှင်သန်နေမှာပါ!”
