Community Youth Leader Development Program (CYLD) is the updated design of the former higher education preparation program (GED program), which operated as one of the major activities at BEAM since its establishment in 2010. The new design focuses on a wider range for capacity building, networking, youth empowerment, and community engagement activities. This program is a bridge for migrant and marginalized youth who have not completed their basic education and are unable to pursue higher education. As part of higher education access, this program provides the American-based internationally recognized high school equivalency course and certificate.
We are now open for new student applications for the 2020-2021 academic year. We encourage any individuals from marginalized communities, particularly migrants and refugees from Myanmar with strong aspirations and commitment to prepare for higher education, to apply for the Program. Applicants should have intermediate level English language skills at the minimum. The medium of instruction in the GED program is in English only. The eligibility criteria and more detailed information are outlined below:
Application: The completed application form must be brought or mailed/posted to BEAM Education Foundation (address is shown below) or emailed to [email protected] by 1 March 2020.
Entrance test: Invited applicants must sit for the entrance test, which includes the four subjects of the GED: English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. The entrance test will take place at 9 AM on 7 March 2020 at the CDC school in Mae Sot (for applicants from Mae Sot area) and 9 AM OR6 PM on 7 March 2020 at BEAM Education Foundation in Chiang Mai (for applicants from Chiang Mai area). NOTE: Students can bring their application form on the exam day as long as they confirm with the CDC school or BEAM before 1 March 2020.
Results: The results will be posted in late March 2020. Applicants may contact the CDC school or BEAM for their acceptance notification.
Class arrangement: Classes will begin in early May 2020 and end in late March 2021. Classes are provided both in the morning (9 AM – 12 PM) and in the evening (6 PM – 9 PM). Extra support classes in the afternoon will also be provided.
