Soft Skills Development Workshop Completion
On 9th November 2016, a 5-week Soft Skills Development workshop was successfully completed at BEAM in collaboration with the Branch Foundation. Adam Lawrence instructed the Soft Skills course for BEAM students and provided students with the skills to create a personal statement, cover letter and CV. With the goal of better preparing BEAM students for their careers and further education journeys, the 5-week workshop focused on improving the BEAM student’s, “soft” or “essential” skills. More than 20 students participated collectively in the workshop. Students also learned interview techniques for jobs and scholarships; as well as, skills for completing university applications. The course ran from 5 October to 9 November 2016.The student’s experience was a holistic one that aimed to provide learning opportunities inside and out of the classroom.
Adam was connected to BEAM through a partner NGO, The Branch Foundation. This is the Branch Foundation’s fifth year of leading Soft Skills Professional Workshops at BEAM, and Adam’s first year. We are grateful for his hard work and dedication to BEAM. Here is what he says:
“I first found out about BEAM and the amazing work that they do through The Branch Foundation, to whom I am very grateful. A short way through the course, we got to discussing each others’ work/academic backgrounds and it became apparent that, despite extraordinary hardship, they had made it as far as BEAM by taking big risks, traveling long distances and learning multiple languages. I was particularly struck by their collective desire to return to where they’re from and contribute their hard-earned skills in a common effort to improve living standards for future generations. I could not admire them more and I sincerely hope that Soft Skills has helped them prepare for the next exciting step in their journeys: university.”
