Ah Wang is one of BEAM Education Foundation’s GED Program graduates who was able to continue her education and graduate. Immediately after graduating from the Faculty of Information Technology at Payap University in May 2018, Ah Wang joined BEAM as an ICT4A Mobile App Developer and also joined Kachin Women’s Association Thailand (KWAT) as Documentation and Research Program Data Manager. Ah Wang’s main responsibilities at KWAT include Data analysis, Translations (Burmese – Kachin – English), Layout designs for reports, pamphlets and statements, and Basic computer trainer.

Ah Wang shares the reason for joining KWAT:

“In some parts of the Myanmar, including Kachin State, internal conflicts are still ongoing. Women and children have become victims of those wars. Most people from Myanmar did not know how badly women and children were suffering because of wars. A lot of human rights violation were happening in the Kachin area. Most people by this did not know where to take their cases to get justice. Moreover, the battles are still happening and achieving justice is still just a dream. All we can do is collect data on what was happened, by who, and how it affected civilians. The reason I am working at KWAT is to help civilians to know their rights and keep track of information so that after the war is over the people who suffered will be able to find justice. “

Ah Wang shares the reason for joining BEAM:

Ah Wang’s main responsibility at BEAM is Android App Developer.

“My other job is creating Android learning application for migrant workers who did not have the chance to go to school or a learning center. The name of the application is ICT4A (Information and Communication Technology for All). From the ICT4A app, migrant workers can learn not only from non-formal, vocational, and higher education lessons, but they can also access information that is related to migrants and their lives.

As I graduated with an IT degree, I want to be useful to my community. Furthermore, by accepting this job, I can not only make an app for migrant workers but I can also learn new things and practice my skills.”

Message for BEAM and BEAM junior students:

“First I would like to say thank you very much to the teachers and staff at BEAM. Without BEAM, I could not have become the woman that I am today. At first, I came to BEAM just to attend a computer class. But then Saya Sai Aung Lin introduced me to the higher education GED program and suggested I join and told me I could enter university after I pass the GED test. I did not think I could attend university since I never finished high school in Myanmar,but I decided to try. For two and a half years, I worked during the day and took classes at BEAM in the evening.

The teachers from BEAM taught not only lessons but also additional skills that I would need in my university life. I really want to say thank you to BEAM for accepting me and supporting me to study what I want. And to my juniors: sometimes, if you are just looking at what is happening around you, you will not reach your goal. Do not try to do what other people are doing; follow what you really want to do. Encourage yourself when you feel depressed or want to give up. Keep fighting for what you desire. “
