On January 10, 2016, BEAM Education Foundation celebrated its 6th Anniversary at Panorama Hall, Tarin Hotel in Chiang Mai. During the event, BEAM also presented the first two Golden Heart Awards, to two of our longest serving volunteers, Lucy Coombs and Patricia Joan Corey. The Golden Heart Award was created to celebrate exemplary and long-term service to BEAM. For six years, Lucy Coombs and Patricia Joan Corey have helped students reach their higher education aspirations in our GED Bridging Program. After the Golden Heart Awards were given, BEAM’s friends and colleagues from partner organizations spoke in a panel of our shared educational mission and goals. They also shared their opinions about their relationship with BEAM now and their hopes for continued partnerships in the future. As part of the activities, some BEAM alumni students also spoke, sharing their educational journeys, experiences, thoughts and opinions about what education means to them, and how it is important in the community. BEAM students and alumni, as well as staff and community members, have worked very hard to organize this special program. This celebration represents one of the core values of BEAM, to use our different backgrounds and cultural exchange to achieve a common goal. Students and alumni organized a series of performances, such as traditional Burmese, Karen, and Shan dances, as well as a fashion show representing various ethnic groups and popular Burmese cartoon actors.
