Many BEAM Students presented the ‘Unity’ song well by performing the traditional dance of eight major ethnic groups on 26th Aug 2012 during The ASEAN Education Challenge 2012 at The Convention Center, Chiang Mai University. The eight major ethnic groups are Kachin, Karen, Shan, Mon, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah & Myanmar. We were allotted 10 minutes to perform our traditional dance.

Although we didn’t have much time to prepare and practice for the dance, our students and teachers did an excellent job preparing for the event. Those who participated thoroughly enjoyed the new experience. They felt proud that they had the opportunity to describe their ethnic groups of their motherland through the dance and their traditional ethnic costumes.

We hope that the audience enjoyed the traditional dance and recognize the major ethnic groups of Myanmar.

In addition, five students from BEAM participated in a 45-minute English Language ASEAN Quiz Show at Montfort University on that same day. Twenty-three schools from Thai, Myanmar (BEAM), Malaysia and Brunei participated. Five Thai schools succeeded to compete in the next round. All of our students seemed very confident during the quiz show. They were also happy to represent BEAM and Myanmar even though they did not move-on to the next level.

They also enjoyed other activities after the quiz session. The students made new friends from Thai schools and schools form other countries. Overall, it was a positive experience for our students and for BEAM as an organization.

We are very proud of everyone’s participation and representation.
