On 28-29Oct and 4-5 Nov, 2017, the BEAM/JUMP! Youth Conference: Welding Ideas for Sustainable Existence (WISE) was successfully held at the Faculty of Social Science in Chiang Mai University and Funruk Resort, Hang Dong in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The four day program was run in collaboration between BEAM Education Foundation and the JUMP! Foundation. It consisted of two days ofpre-conference workshops and two days of conference with 41participantsincluding: Myanmar youth, Thai youth, and Thai ethnic youth living in Chiang Mai.

The pre-conference workshops helped youth better understand the concept of social entrepreneurship and prepared the participants to design their own projects during the conference. The workshops also increased the likelihood that the projects will be successfully implemented. During the first weekend, participants engaged in activities that were focused on self-discovery, team building, and community assessment. Later, they identified common challenges and formed groups to brainstorm and develop solutions by using problem analysis and project development tools.

The participants had the opportunity to learn about design thinking and project creation. They identified specific problems in their communities and came up with tangible solutions as their social impact projects. There were a total of 6 projects presented at the conference; they addressed today’s most compelling issues in Chiang Mai, Thailand and the Thai-Myanmar border area. Topics included: air pollution, lack of education opportunities, education discrimination among migrant and refugee youth, lack of performance in scholarship application, bullying in school, and the lack of scholarship information among migrant youth.

These discussions and projects led by the local youth ultimately change lives. They inspire youth to think of solutions, empower them to reach for resources, and engage them to be the change they want to see in their own communities. The winning team developed a project that was human-centered and can help marginalized youth most in need. Their project was focused on the issue of lack of scholarship information and opportunities among migrants, refugees, and marginalized youth in Mae Sot and Chiang Mai. These participants will be given a small grant to go and implement their project. Additionally, BEAM Education Foundation will connect them with mentors for continual guidance.

The workshops and conference provide a platform for exciting and transformative participant-led discussion groups. The discussions covered a wide variety of local issues which allowed the youth to engage with themselves and each other to troubleshoot the issues they are facing. Young people’s commitment to change is inspiring; but more importantly, it is necessary and crucial. They are undoubtedly active change agents of their own communities but also of each other.

This was the 2ndprogramcontinuing the partnership between BEAM and the JUMP! Foundation. The JUMP! ေဆြးေႏြးပြဲအႀကိဳ အလုပ္႐ံုေဆြးေႏြးပြဲ ၂ ရက္တြင္ လူငယ္မ်ားမွ ၎တို႔၏စိတ္ကူးအိပ္မက္ စီမံကိန္းမ်ားကို မည္သို႔ဒီဇိုင္းေဖာ္ထုတ္ ျပင္ဆင္ရမည့္ နည္းလမ္းမ်ားအျပင္ လူမႈေရး၊ ယဥ္ေက်းမႈႏွင့္ သဘာဝပတ္ဝန္းက်င္ဆိုင္ရာ ျပႆနာမ်ားကို ကူညီေျဖရွင္းေပးျခင္းဆိုင္ရာ အယူအဆ အသိပညာတို႔ကို ပိုမိုနားလည္သေဘာေပါက္ေအာင္ ျပင္ဆင္ေပးႏိုင္ခဲ့သည္။ ထို႔ျပင္ စီမံကိန္းေအာင္ျမင္စြာအေကာင္အထည္ေဖာ္ေဆာင္မႈ ျဖစ္ႏိုင္ေျခကိုလည္း တိုးျမႇင့္ေအာင္ကူညီေပးခဲ့သည္။ ပထမ ၂ ရက္အတြင္း လူငယ္မ်ားမွ မိမိတို႔၏ကိုယ္ပိုင္အရည္အေသြးမ်ား ေဖာ္ထုတ္ျခင္း၊ အဖြဲ႔ဖြဲ႔ျခင္းႏွင့္ လူမႈအဖြဲ႔အစည္းဆိုင္ရာ လိုအပ္ခ်က္မ်ားကို အာ႐ံုစိုက္ ေဆြးေႏြးလုပ္ေဆာင္ခဲ့ၾကသည္။ ထို႔ေနာက္ လူမႈအဖြဲ႔အစည္းအတြင္း ႀကံဳေတြ႔ေနရသည့္ ျပႆနာအခက္အခဲမ်ားကို ခြဲျခားေဖာ္ထုတ္ၿပီး လူငယ္မ်ား၏စိတ္ဝင္စားမႈအလိုက္ အဖြဲ႔လိုက္ေဆြးေႏြးခ်က္မ်ားႏွင့္ ျဖစ္ႏိုင္ဖြယ္ရာ ဦးတည္ေျဖရွင္းခ်က္မ်ားကို ေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကသည္။ ေဆြးေႏြးပြဲတက္ေရာက္ခဲ့သူ လူငယ္မ်ားအေနျဖင့္ စဥ္းစားေတြးေခၚမႈႏွင့္ လူထုအက်ဳိးျပဳစီမံကိန္းမ်ား ဖန္တီးႏိုင္မႈဆိုင္ရာ အခြင့္အလမ္းမ်ားကို သင္ယူရရွိခဲ့ၾကသည္။ ၎တို႔၏ လူမႈအဖြဲ႔အစည္းအတြင္း လတ္တေလာ ႀကံဳေတြ႔ေနရေသာ ျပႆနာမ်ားကို ပူးေပါင္းေဖာ္ထုတ္ခဲ့ၿပီး အဆိုပါ ျပႆနာမ်ားကို လက္ေတြ႔က်က် အေျဖရွာ၍ အေကာင္အထည္ေဖာ္ေဆာင္ေျဖရွင္းႏိုင္ရန္ ၎တို႔၏ လူထုအက်ဳိးျပဳစီမံကိန္းမ်ားကို တင္ျပ ေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကသည္။ ေဆြးေႏြးပြဲအတြင္း ထိုင္းႏိုင္ငံအတြင္းႏွင့္ ထိုင္း-ျမန္မာ နယ္စပ္ေဒသတေလွ်ာက္ လူမႈအဖြဲ႔အစည္းမ်ားအတြင္း လတ္တေလာျဖစ္ေပၚေနေသာ အေလးထားေဆာင္႐ြက္ရမည့္ ကိစၥရပ္မ်ားအတြက္ ဦးတည္ေျဖရွင္းႏိုင္မည့္ စီမံကိန္း ၆ ခုကို လူငယ္အဖြဲ႔ တစ္ခုစီမွ တင္ျပေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကသည္။ တင္ျပေဆြးေႏြးခဲ့ၾကသည့္ ေခါင္းစဥ္မ်ားတြင္ ေလထုညစ္ညမ္းျခင္း၊ ပညာေရးဆိုင္ရာ အခြင့္အလမ္း နည္းပါးျခင္း၊ ေ႐ႊ႕ေျပာင္းလူငယ္ႏွင့္ ဒုကၡသည္လူငယ္မ်ားအတြင္း ပညာေရးဆိုင္ရာ ခဲြျခားဆက္ဆံခံရျခင္း၊ ပညာသင္ဆုေလွ်ာက္ထားရာ၌ အရည္အေသြးနိမ့္ပါးျခင္း၊ ေက်ာင္းတြင္းအႏိုင္က်င့္ခံရျခင္းႏွင့္ ေ႐ႊ႕ေျပာင္းလူငယ္မ်ားအၾကား ပညာသင္ဆုဆိုင္ရာ သတင္းအခ်က္အလက္ရရွိမႈ နည္းပါးျခင္း အစရွိသည့္ အေၾကာင္းအရာမ်ား ပါဝင္ခဲ့ၾကသည္။
