Feelings on Passing the GED

For migrant students from Myanmar, dreams of higher education are often impossible to pursue through mainstream education systems. BEAM’s Academic Bridging Program prepares migrant students to take the GED, an exam that allows them to apply to universities in Thailand and around the world.

For migrant students from Myanmar, dreams of higher education are often impossible to pursue through mainstream education systems. BEAM’s Academic Bridging Program prepares migrant students to take the GED, an exam that allows them to apply to universities in Thailand and around the world. It’s always a happy day at BEAM when our graduates pass the GED, and we’d like to congratulate everyone who has passed so far. The students and the staff at BEAM put in a lot of hard work to ensure success, and we asked a few recent BEAM graduates and their teachers how they feel about that success.

Nang Sein Pwint, 2012 graduate: “I feel wonderful. I’ve tried hard during my two years at BEAM to pass the GED because I want to go to university. Now I’m looking for opportunities to study education in the Philippines or Hong Kong.”

Ko Wai Phyo Aung, science and math teacher: “I’m happy for the graduates. It’s a good opportunity for them to further their education and make a better life for themselves. They can share their knowledge and help their communities.”

Alyssa Paylor, language arts teacher: “I am proud of their hard work and dedication. These students never stopped working towards their goals. I am excited to see our students succeed in university, and I look forward to watching how they bring change to their communities after their graduation.”

Khin Sabai, 2012 graduate: “I took the GED so that I can attend university and have better opportunities in my future. I’m happy I passed. I came to Thailand specifically to attend BEAM, and it has helped me achieve my goals for a better education.”
